How to Use Activator-D: A Step-by-Step Guide
Activator-D is designed to be simple. No complicated dosing schedules, no daily monitoring, no harsh chemicals. Here's everything you need to know to get the most out of your monthly treatment.
What's in the Box
Each Activator-D treatment includes two bottles:
- 1 Blue Powder Bottle
- 1 Yellow Liquid Bottle
Both are used together during a single monthly treatment. They work as a system — don't use one without the other.
Before You Start: Balance Your Water
For Activator-D to work effectively, your pool water needs to be properly balanced beforehand. Test your water and ensure it falls within these ranges:
- pH: 7.2 – 7.6
- Total Alkalinity: 80 – 120 ppm
- Calcium Hardness: 200 – 400 ppm
- Free Chlorine: 1 – 3 ppm
If your water is out of range, adjust it first and allow the chemicals to circulate before proceeding with your Activator-D treatment.
Step-by-Step: How to Apply Activator-D
Step 1 — Backwash your filter for 2–3 minutes
Before adding any treatment, backwash your filter for 2–3 minutes to clear out any trapped debris and ensure your filtration system is running at full efficiency.
Step 2 — Make sure your pump is running
Your pool pump needs to be on and circulating water before you add the treatment. This ensures even distribution throughout the pool.
Step 3 — Add both bottles through your skimmer/weir
Pour the contents of both the blue powder bottle and the yellow liquid bottle into your skimmer/weir at the same time.
Step 4 — Let the pump run for 8 hours or more
Keep your pump running for 8 hours or more after treatment to ensure full distribution through the pool.
Step 5 — Repeat monthly
That's it. One treatment per month is all that's needed to maintain ongoing algae protection.
Tips for Best Results
- Apply your treatment at the same time each month to keep protection consistent
- Treat in the evening or on a cloudy day if possible to reduce UV breakdown
- Keep your water balanced year-round — Activator-D works best in balanced water
- Don't skip months during winter — algae doesn't take a season off
